Annual Review Bureau REACH 2025
The year 2025 did not bring the major changes we had expected: both the relocation of RIVM and the revision of REACH were postponed. Nevertheless, we continued our work at Bureau REACH with optimism and energy.
The key milestone of the past year was the completion of our intensive collaboration on the PFAS REACH restriction proposal, together with partner institutes from Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. It is now up to the experts in Helsinki to deliver an opinion on our comprehensive proposal and for the European Commission to prepare a decision.
In addition, we made significant progress with the new CLP hazard classes for persistent substances and endocrine disruptors. These hazard classes are still unique worldwide and therefore deserve a place in the United Nations Globally Harmonised System. Through our proposals, technical input and policy advice, we aim to firmly embed these hazard classes in the international regulatory framework.
There is of course much more to mention, such as our work on workplace exposure limits for bisphenol A, our contribution to OSOA, our role in the development of a European coordination system for the development and validation of test methods, and our work on risk assessment methodologies.
We look ahead with confidence and remain committed to the safe and sustainable management of chemical substances, both in the Netherlands and internationally.
